He can't believe they're doing it in first period. It's like they're setting it up to cause the most drama. How did they even have the time to sort all the orders out? Does this happen every year? It never seemed like a big deal to him before, and he finds himself struggling to remember previous Valentines days, the order of things. (He remembers Jinx being a whole lot more into things last year when her and Chadd were still together. That's neither here nor there!!!)
He usually gets a bunch of yellow roses, sometimes a pink or two—he's pretty popular with the Zaun half of the school—but whatever fleeting relationships he's had haven't overlapped with the holiday so he's never ordered anything other than yellows before himself. When the flower girls approach the back of the room where he and Jinx are sitting, both grinning very evilly if you ask him, he tries not to sink down into his chair like he's being lectured by Benzo for getting caught graffitiing the back of the school with Jinx.]
Uh, thanks. [He mutters as he takes his own roses, a small bunch of all yellows, and pretends to be very busy reading the name cards on them as he hears her turn and offer Jinx her flowers with a completely unnecessary flourish. Why did he decide to be brave in such a public way again?]

when it's jinx's turn, she expected a yellow rose too. just a single and nothing else. but to her surprise, she not only has a yellow and pink one but... two red ones. her eyes widen at those colors and wants to ask if there's been some sort of mistake or something, but suddenly she doesn't know her vocabulary. the girl, on the other hand, starts to grow impatient and says in a snooty tone, "well? are you going to take them or not?" )
U-Uh...yeaah.
( she's hesitate, but she grabs a hold of those roses and simply stare dumbfounded at the pink and reds as the community girl bounces off to someone else. who would had gave her these? the yellow is definitely ekko, for sure. but... the pink? the reds? could it be from the same person or different people? and right before she could even look at the names that are tagged to them, mr. talis bursts into the classroom in stumbles and slams his weekly planner on the desk.
he frantically apologizes for his lateness and tells everyone in class to settle down and put whatever that isn't for this class away. so jinx sets the roses down on her right side of her (easy for ekko to take peek of the names if he wants) as she wraps up the remainder biscuit. if he decides to look at the name of the reds, it reads: CHADD for both. it looks like someone is trying to worm their way back in. )

When he realizes who they're from, his eyes immediately narrow. Their breakup had been pretty explosive and final, Ekko would know he was absolutely caught in the blast radius, there's no way the idiot thinks he's coming back from that. Right?? Right???
He stews on that for about half the lesson before he manages to get back on track when Mr. Talis pointedly clears his throat and repeats a question for him in front of everyone, and before he knows it the end of class bell is ringing. Great, and he has Chadd in his next class. Maybe it's for the best that Jinx hasn't seemed to notice who any of her flowers are from? Ekko stands up with admittedly more haste than usual, stuffing his things and his poor bunch of yellow flowers directly into his backpack.]
See you during lunch?
[Everything is normal and cool, don't worry about it!!]

'are you okay?', 'woah, what's your rush?', 'what? suddenly don't want to walk with me to my locker?'
but all of those questions seem to barge together into a big traffic jam of mess and she couldn't get any of them out of her. )
Yeah! Yeah, uh. See ya then.
( was he upset that he didn't get any red roses? he didn't seem like the type to care about relationships, so she assumed anyway. because for as long as she knew him, he had always been about making things or repairing things -- similar to her. but with class now over, this does give her a chance to look at those roses now. so still in her seat, she picks the four up -- looking at the obvious ones, the reds. and seeing it's from you-know-who, her face falls in irritation. ugh. jinx should had known the reds would be from him and not anyone new in her life. and she is going to make a suspicion that the pink is from him too. in fact, she really should just toss these three in the trash and keep the yellow one seeing it's from someone who actually gives a damn about her.
but from some reason, maybe it's her woman's intuition, that tells her to read the name of the pink rose anyway. and when her eyes gaze over, her heart sinks drastically to her stomach and a big wave of shock hits her like a train. this... this isn't from —.
...
wait a minute. waitwaitwait fucking wait! jinx jolts up her head to look to the left of her, but ekko seems to be already moving fast. )
Ekko? Wait, hold on!
( gah! she needs to hurry up and pack everything together before he gets away. not even caring for the tidiness of her belongings, jinx jams everything in her backpack (especially the red ones), but carefully keeps the yellow and pink in tact with her hands. she stumbles out of her desk and swings the backpack over her shoulders -- hitting a student from behind. )
Fuck, watch it, will ya?!

But he got her the flower because he wanted to tell her, not because he wanted to run away. And if she's not interested she's not interested, surely it's better to go in to a class with Chadd knowing that that rather than just wondering, right? Especially since now he's Mr. Two Red Roses, the dickhead.
So Ekko sucks it up, and when she manages to jostle her way out to the hall as well he's waiting, gripping the shoulder straps of his backpack so hard they might end up permanently crinkled. When he sees that she's only still holding two of the roses—the ones he sent—he actually manages to make some eye-contact.] Hey. [Wow, apparently he's going to make Jinx do all the legwork to get this conversation started. He just doesn't want to start scrambling to explain himself in a way that will deposit his foot firmly in his mouth until he gauges how Jinx actually feels about the pink rose! It's not cowardice, it's tactical!!]

Hey. ( okay, that's a start but what she should say next? jinx is a little floored if she's honest and this is something she hadn't seen coming at all. she wants to think back to see if he had been dropping hints, but their friendship's been running for a decade maybe? it feels like it. and even if she wants to sit and think about, she can't right now. there's only a limited time until she won't see him until lunch. her gaze is down at the roses, the pink one now in her right one to separate the yellow. )
Uhm... — So how long have you've been....
( she'll just let that trail off in the atmosphere. it's still a little unsure he feels this way about her. and for the two of them ever dating being a possibility, somehow... it never crossed her mind. )

Um, well, awhile I guess? [That's unhelpfully vague!! He's definitely had a crush since they were little kids, but he didn't really see it for what it was except in hindsight. Mostly when both he and Jinx started trying to date other people, and Ekko realized he didn't feel the same with anyone else as he did with her. That maybe best friend feelings weren't all he had, because no one else stacked up, and boy did he try to make it happen. Then she started a surprisingly long relationship with Chadd and he just figured it didn't matter because she was already taken.
He flicks his eyes over to glare at a pair of very obvious onlookers, and luckily direct staring is enough to chase them off in a flurry of giggles, before he sighs.] I made it weird, didn't I? [He figures he should be nice and give her the opening if she wants to let him down easy. Or whatever Jinx' extremely blunt version of letting someone down easy might be.]

( had she been so self-absorbed in herself and her own things that she didn't see it? jinx definitely paid attention to his troubles and what not because what kind of best friend wouldn't? but gosh, she does feel like an idiot for not picking any of this up and now she's confronting all of this right in the middle of the hallway with girls giggling. and ekko isn't the only one who shoots death glares at the onlookers -- and still doing that until he sighs. quickly, she spins a look back to him then says suddenly in little sputters: )
N-Nono! You didn't make it weird! You're good! Uh...
( it's really hard to get her thoughts together and think of what to say with there's so many people around and the clock ticking. clearing her throat, she fiddles with the yellow rose at first -- breaking the stem so it wouldn't be too long before sticking it behind her left ear. )
How about this: Since we, uh, gotta get to class and all that junk -- we'll chat more about this at lunch?
( with the pink rose, she does the same with the yellow by snapping the stem then places it behind her right ear. once that's all done, she peers up to her friend with a small yet sheepish smile. )
We can sit outside in the commons area and eat. People won't be so focus on us then.
( probably a crappy move to leave ekko hanging a little longer until lunch, but... the fact she is tucking the pink in her hair might mean something? although, jinx did the same with the yellow rose. )
